Inspired By: Mallory of @beautybymally

Happy Monday, and welcome to the first post of a new series I’d like to call “Inspired By.” I am surrounded by so many inspiring people and I can’t wait to share their stories with you!

The first to be featured is none other than Mallory of @beautybymally. She’s super talented, super ambitious, and yep…she’s my sister! I sat down with her over Thanksgiving break to talk a little bit about her love of all things hair, makeup, and styling.

Tell us a little bit about yourself!
“Mal. Age 18. Studying Communications and pursuing a career as a hair and beauty stylist. I love changing up my look, and I always incorporate a little bit of pink into each of my outfits. Who doesn’t love pink?”

How did you get your start in beauty?
“My sister, Mace, got me a curling iron for Christmas one year. I spent a lot of time watching different tutorials and was inspired to try my own unique styles. When it comes to make-up, I fell in love with it at a really young age. I remember carrying a lip gloss necklace with me to my youth soccer games….to this day a good lip gloss is something I can’t leave the house without! In high-school I started working on the hair and make-up team for the school plays. Putting looks together in high-pressure situations and really pulling it off was such a fun challenge, and I still help out with plays whenever I can. Today, I’m working as a stylist assistant at B.J’s Grand Salon and Spa. It’s the best job ever, and I get to experiment with different brands, colors, and products all day!”

Do you have a go-to brand or certain product that you use in everybody’s hair/make over?
“I love to use Arbonne products for everything – hair, make-up, all of it. You just can’t beat how it’s all natural, super healthy, and it helps each client acheive their own perfect glow. If I had to pick one product from the line (wow, this is a hard one!) I would say that the FC5 Complection perfecting set is my must-have. Having pretty, healthy, and moisturized skin is the most important step in achieving any beauty look.”

How has your asthetic changed over time?
“When I first started out, I just kind of threw on different products and added a little bit of this or that where needed. Now I would say that there is a definite method to my madness. Everything’s a process…including learning! I work with each client to make them happy as well as stretch my own skill a little farther than I have before.”

You switch up your own look often…why is that?
“It’s always fun to try new things. I like to cut my hair, because hair always grows back! Nothing you do with hair or make-up is permanent, so why not experiment?”

What do you think the best tip or trick is for someone wanting to re-vamp their everyday beauty routine?
“First, check out tips and ideas on my Instagram account, @beautybymally! But for just a quick response, I would say that everyone should go get professionally matched for their foundation. It’s the best (and easiest) fix to a drab everyday make-up routine. The right foundation makes all the difference!”

If you could enforce one beauty rule, which one would it be?
“Two words. Skunk. Syndrome.
I absolutely HATE when people die their hair one color on top, and another on the bottom. It doesn’t look good on anyone – I promise!”

Ready, set, HOT SEAT!
Favorite Color: “Pink, obvi.”
Blonde or Brunette? (Her hair has been both colors!): “Blonde for sure. More dimention, more options!”
Can’t live without hair product: “Strong hold hairspray.”
Can’t live without make-up product: “A great red lipstick.”
Favorite part of the buisness: “Making people feel good about themselves!”

Thank you SO much for chatting with us, Mal! Good luck in everything you do.
(I think we’ve found our new beauty guru!)
